The Creator of
M/5 Haircare Essentials
Maria Shkreli, founder and CEO, brought her hair care lab-testing experience with her when she opened her first salon at age 27, winning multiple awards along the way and opening many more salons. With over 25 years of experience styling hair, she listened to many clients’ concerns about hair products and problems. She took the top three concerns into consideration when creating her M/5 line.

Pursuing Her Dreams
Maria was born in Montenegro. Her parents were old-fashioned and wanted her to enter into the business world, not beauty school. Still, Maria was determined to pursue what she loved and entered Wilfred Academy at 21, winning herself a first-place prize in a competition.
One of the judges was so impressed, he offered Maria her first job at a salon in Riverdale. Once she had as many clients as the other stylists, she knew it was time to venture out on her own.
Opening Her First Salon and Expanding
In 1994, Maria opened her first salon, Äria Riverdale, and everything grew from there:

Winning Awards & Magazine Features
In New York City, Maria’s award-winning aesthetic was featured on shows like My Celebrity Home, and in magazines like Planet, Details, View, and Clear. She styled photoshoots for New York City’s Goldbar, and for pop icons like Lenny Kravitz.
Selah, a popular White Plains nightspot, salon, and lounge which she opened with her sister, Jackie, won the coveted Best Concept award from Westchester Magazine. Then she won Best Educator at the SOHO Institute of Aveda.
